1994 ford ranger timing belt replacement11/16/2023 ![]() ![]() When I did my buddies timing on his supra, it was hard to turn and hold the crank on TDC. Do you think I could have been given the wrong spark plugs? They do look a little different for the old ones.Īlso, now that I'm thinking about it, when I'm turning the crank to put it on TDC, it doesn't feel like there is any resistance around TDC. So when I put the new belt on, I went ahead and put new spark plugs and new spark wires on. The truck ran perfectly fine before the belt gave out. So does that mean anything? Any tips on how to determine if on the exhaust stroke or the compression stroke without taking the valve cover off? Same result but I was getting a strong gas smell when trying to start it. I thought maybe I had the timing set on the exhaust stroke instead of the compression stroke, so I spun the cam 360 and tried again. Every once in a wile it will fire up for a second then just die. I went and got a new battery, so now that solved the clicking thing. We'll I put the crank back on TDC, lined up the diamonds on the oil pump pulley, and lined up the triangles on the camshaft. It is therefore vital to make your timing belt on. The faster the engine is running at the moment of the breakage, the more significant the outcomes are. Indeed, the pistons will hit the valves and damage them, and the camshaft will also break. You say it cranks a couple times then just clicks like crazy, does that mean the engine stops turning, and you just get clicks? Clicks from what, the starter or the engine? If the timing of your Ford Ranger breaks, you will definitely have to change the engine of this one. The crank should be set at TDC, but whats hard to understand it what you say. This engine is a no interference engine right? So I don't have to worry about bent valves right? Truck Rena absolutely perfect before this. It has a coil pack, so I don't have to align a distributor. I set the crank at 10 degrees BTDC the oil pump diamonds aligned and the cam triangles aligned. Bought a new battery and still the same result. It cranks a couple times them just clicks like crazy. I've checked the timing about 5 times and still the same result. So I put in a new timing belt and now it won't start. Towed it home and opened her up to find the timing belt snapped. ![]() I was driving one day and all of a sudden lost all acceleration then it died when I came to a stop. ![]()
